The Diocese of Exeter covers the County of Devon and is one of the largest dioceses in England. It has more than 500 parishes and over 600 churches, many of them in small rural communities.
The Diocese is geographically large and has coastal holiday towns on its northern and southern boundaries, with three large urban conurbations and some larger market towns. As a consequence, the people that the Diocese serves have very different needs and daily experiences. The Diocese of Exeter has its origins in the Middle Ages and there has been a Cathedral at Exeter since 1050 when the first Bishop of Exeter was enthroned in the presence of King Edward the Confessor. The Diocese originally spanned both Devon and Cornwall but was reduced in size when the Diocese of Truro was formed in 1876.
The Chancellor of the Diocese is The Rt Hon Sir Andrew McFarlane who is the current President of the Family Division and a Lord Justice of Appeal.
Alison Stock is the Registrar for the Diocese of Exeter and has held this role since May 2018. Alison’s background is primarily as a property solicitor, but she has also worked in other areas of legal practice and her experience is broad.
Nathalie Southan is the Diocesan Registry Clerk and has been in this role since 2018.
Rebecca Harmer is a Solicitor working within the Registry team providing legal advice and support to those within the Diocese.
